The Story:

D.O.B : 3/5/1980. Resides - Brighton East, 10 years

Louisa started with Kathy Watt Cycling five months ago and hasn’t looked back since. Louisa started riding to get over an illness and did some good base strength work before she came to us.

Carey would see her riding past the shop nearly every day, chugging along doing about 40rpm! Carey said that we had to go out and tell her to pedal with a higher cadence because she needed help. But it turns out we didn’t have to.

Louisa came into our shop as she was in a rut with her training and wanted some help with her technique and skills.

Louisa has improved by at least 200% in the last 5 months and continues to improve to this day. We hope that Louisa achieves all her goals and we look forward to helping her achieve them.

The Interview:

KWPT:
Why did you start riding?
Louisa:
To help me get over an illness and to improve my fitness.

KWPT:
Why did you start training with KWPT?
Louisa:
I was in a bit of a rut with my training, I stopped improving and I wanted some people to ride with.

KWPT:
What do your family think of your cycling?
Louisa:
They think it’s great. I used to go out heaps partying and come back at all hours, but now I am normally in bed by 9pm!

KWPT:
What’s your ultimate goal in cycling?
Louisa:
To win the road race at the National championships and maybe one day at the Olympics.

KWPT:
What do you like the most about the training at KWPT?

Louisa:
The people are really great, they are always offering advice and the variety in the training always keeps me interested.

KWPT:
What’s your most embarrassing cycling moment?

Louisa:
My most embarrassing moment (there’s a few to choose from) was when I wore a pair of floral undies under some see through red cycling knicks. Quite a few people in the bunch told methat Iwasn’t meant to wear undies underneath bike pants as the cycling knicks have a chamois. I had been told this by Sigrid the day before but thought that she was just playing a joke on me so when I realised that you don’t wear them, I was quite embarrassed and wished I had listened to Sigrid.

KWPT:
Is it true you have discovered more of Melbourne in the last few months by bike Than you had in the last 20 years?

Louisa:
I was born in Brighton and hadn’t ventured very far from home. I thought that Mordialloc was miles from Brighton and thought that it was all paddocks and farms after Mordialloc. Since starting training with KWPT, I has been to more new suburbs in 5 months than I had been in my whole life. I really enjoy the Wednesday bunch rides to Mt Eliza and Arthurs Seat (It is a hard hill but it has sensational view of Melbourne and the Bay from the top. With the cycling competitions held in a lot of country towns you really get to see Victoria.

KWPT:
Where is your favourite location to cycle?

Louisa:
I’ve only been there twice, but it would have to be the Dandenongs. It is really pretty up there and there are some really good climbs.

KWPT:
What is your most memorable moment cycling?

Louisa:
It was when I beat Carey on the hill climb classic at Half Moon Bay. Carey challenged me, betting that I couldn’t beat him once out of fifteen repetitions up the hill. But I surprised him when I stayed in front of him on sprint number 11. Carey hasn’t lived it down ever since.

KWPT:
What is your funniest occasion while cycling?

Louisa:
The other day I was riding down to Frankston when a young fit looking gentleman asked if he could ride with me. I agreed and started to chat with him. Then I noticed that the guy was wearing all LeMond gear and riding a LeMond bike. I turned to him and said “geez, you really must like this lemon guy?” The guy replied by hinting that he was sponsored by them and was receiving a salary from them. Being a little slow on the uptake on this occasion and new to cycling I didn’t click on. I continued to chat with him, finding out that he hadn’t been home since Feburary because he had been racing all year overseas. The guy was dropping hints left right and centre and when he was about to depart, he said to me“look on the front page of the Herald Sun today”. It was only then that I realised I had been riding with the winner of the Herald Sun Tour-Tim Johnson! And as for that Lemon guy- I found out it was the legend Greg Lemond (World Road Champion and 3 times winner of the Tour de France)!
